Overfeeding

Source: Makidotvn (Dreamstime)

“Some people eat to quench hunger, and some eat just to satisfy their gluttony.” - Michael Bassey Johnson

A while back, my attention was drawn to various scenarios in relation to food and health. I saw a child who was almost at the point of being obese and I thought in my heart that, “an overfed child does not mean a healthy child”. It is good for a child to be well fed but when there is no limit, overfeeding steps in.

I remembered one time, out of gluttony, I took a plate of food which was almost filled to the brim because my stomach was making me afraid. That’s what the Yorubas call, “ikun mi n deruba mi”. When it got to a point, my stomach was full, but I kept eating until I had constipation. This made me remember what I once read, “eat to live, don’t live to eat”.

Being able to know when to stop eating should be a conscious effort. Overfeeding shouldn’t be the order of the day. Put a knife to your throat and know your limit. Health is wealth as they say.

Till the next post, keep learning.
